Samsung Electronics is expanding production of its 2025 OLED TVs equipped with LG Display's white organic light-emitting diode (WOLED) panels.
Samsung Electronics has decided to increase the adoption of WOLED panels in its new OLED TVs in 2025, including applying WOLED to the successor model of the top-of-the-line S95D.

This is a strategy to increase the total supply of OLED TVs by adding WOLED panels to meet the demand for high-end and large-size TVs.
Samsung Electronics will adopt LG Display's WOLED panels in its OLED TVs starting in 2023. The initial purchase will be about 10,000 pieces, far lower than the annual production of QD-OLED of about 1.2 million pieces.
It is reported that the company has been supplying new TV products based on WOLED since the beginning of last year. At present, the number of TVs using WOLED panels has exceeded 150,000, a significant increase from the previous year. Only some models of the 2024 model use WOLED, including the hot-selling OLED TV model S85D and the mid-range model S90D.
Samsung Electronics will start applying WOLED panels to its top-of-the-line S95D successor model this year. Therefore, in addition to the existing 55, 65, and 77 inches, an 83-inch will be added. This breaks the current standard of using QD-OLED for top-of-the-line products and WOLED for mid-range to mass models.
A Samsung Electronics official said, "Last year's OLED TV received a good response, and we are actively expanding the models and sizes of WOLED products to actively respond to market demand."
Samsung Electronics plans to increase its market share in regions with strong demand for OLED TVs, such as North America and Europe, by increasing the adoption of WOLED panels. Samsung Electronics' WOLED TV shipments are expected to reach 800,000 units, an increase of about 4 times from last year.
Samsung Electronics is positioning the quantum dot (QD) Mini-LED-based Neo QLED 8K as its top-tier premium brand, and is positioning Neo QLED and OLED TVs as its premium brands. |
