I've read the same about eucalyptus out there. Along with physical firebreaks and using the best fire retardant and heat resistant building materials, instead of having lush lawns and gardens which drain water supply and pressure in critical moments. A savvy SoCal builder told me having lines of succulents best suited to grow in dry desert conditions is most efficient as another type of natural firebreak.

It might look pretty when people build their miniature dense Gardens of Eden on their 0.25-2.5 acre lots but not helpful when the wind-driven inferno eventually blazes through the neighborhood.
