Digiphone's main problem is its poor sound quality. In our tests, words came across the ISDN connection warbly and heavy, and they're often indiscernible. Furthermore, there was an annoying delay--as long as five seconds--associated with each transmission. Third Planet Publishing claims that you can connect to any Digiphone simply by entering the email address of the other party, but in practice we could get the product to work only when we entered an IP address that we could then associate with a user name and store in the phone book. To help you connect with those who lack a fixed IP address, Third Planet Publishing offers a Web page of "correct" email addresses for registered users, but we found this to be of little help. cnet.com Check It Out!
