Executive Summary

The ability to manage year 2000 data presents many challenges to businesses' internal systems and processes. An additional challenge is addressing issues associated with exchanging electronic information with external trading partners. To address this challenge, a committee consisting of retailers, suppliers, Value Added Networks (VANs), and the National Retail Federation (NRF) met to define a program to determine if participants' translators can accurately process electronic documents containing date fields reflecting dates on and after 1/1/2000.

The tests described within this paper are not intended as "catch all" tests. They simply test the ability of all trading partners to accept through their translators the "00" designation for the year 2000. '
