Windows 98 Beta 3 (Jesse's first impression) I just installed it. You have to disable or unistall all antiviral programs, First Aid, Norton Utilities, RealHelp,QEMM, CleanSweep, etc., first. I note Oil Change and TuneUp will be in trouble more than any other programs. The update feature in 98 is the same. It will depend on which site keeps available upgrades updated. This feature is free so nod to 98 big time. No serious threat to CleanSweep although it does incorporate some Automatic delete of unnecessary files like temps and internet cache. Some features in RealHelp noted like automatic defrag, scan disk, some registry fix and system files safety features noted. Virusweep in no danger. WebCompass in no danger. Zip-it in no danger. There is a FAT 32 disk optimizer which threatens Partition-it but not too much I suspect. Also, no Select-it feature for multiple operating systems. Well, that is it for report 1. Now, to see if this stuff works and what other goodies are here. I will be very interested to see if QEMM97 and MagnaRam has any use with 98.
The big loser will be Netscape so far. CyberMedia, too, if OilChange is a big part of their revenue. For Quarterdeck, TuneUp has not been a big producer yet, and their Web site might over added value as a long shot. |
