| | | Why do the MAGA folks vote against their own best interests?
I think many in MAGA land, grew up in a conservative culture, like so many in the south and rural areas, and so do not understand liberals, and cannot see their reality.
What they do know, is that liberals do look down on them for their racist, sexist and homophobic beliefs, and so the MAGA hate them, and have No understanding of them.
And people like Trump and many in the Republican party have leaned over the last 60 years that the trick is to parrot the right wing in their values like racism, homophobia, and sexism, and that is all it take to get them to vote for them.
Then they cut their social programs, and cut taxes for the rich.
E.g. when the entire south became Republicans after the 1964 civil rights act put forth by liberals.
The Democrats are much better for the poor MAGA than the Republicans, but their hate trumps their very survival. So they vote against their own best interests.
The MAGA crowd are easy to manipulate. The Republicans have been doing it since Nixon.
In fact, as mentioned, they are so easy to manipulate they will EVEN vote against their own interests, just like we are seeing now with Trump pausing (and later will cut) all the federal assistance programs many of them need.
Or a perfect example is how 15 Republican governors in poor red states would NOT expand Medicaid that helps their poor folks even though the feds paid 90%. Yet they still voted for them!
Trump just announced a freeze on public assistance, and the 15 states who take the most federal assistance all voted for Trump
Or the farmers who are going to be screwed by his war on illegals.. They knew, or should have! |
