>> Nothing but a bunch of out-of-context quotes edited together by people with agendas.
I'm not sure what you're calling "out of context". But I've seen the interviews from which the quotes were taken. And I don't believe they added anything at all to the truth of what was said.
Fauci (and CDC) were entirely inconsistent on his position, based on what the MOTD (Message of the day) was. The swings were rapid and wild.
- February 27, 2020: CDC Director Robert Redfield stated that healthy people did not need to wear masks. This was consistent with early guidance from health officials including Fauci, who was not vocally against masks but followed the general consensus at the time.
- March 8, 2020: Fauci explicitly told 60 Minutes, "There's no reason to be walking around with a mask," emphasizing the need for masks to be reserved for healthcare workers due to shortages. His concern was primarily about conserving supplies for those who needed them most.
- April 3, 2020: The CDC updated its guidance to recommend that everyone wear cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures were difficult to maintain. Fauci endorsed this shift, explaining that new information about asymptomatic spread necessitated a change in policy
- March 31, 2020 - April 2, 2020: Around this time, there was discussion and consideration within the White House Task Force about recommending broader use of masks, with Fauci indicating that the idea was under "very serious consideration.
- July 24, 2020: Fauci reflected on his earlier statements, explaining that the initial guidance was to save masks for healthcare providers but acknowledged the importance of masks given the extent of asymptomatic spread. (IOW, he claimed he lied).
- September 2020: Despite earlier statements, Fauci increasingly advocated for mask-wearing, highlighting its importance in controlling the spread of the virus.
- February 12, 2021: Fauci advised that masks would need to be worn "for several, several months" until a significant portion of the population was vaccinated, suggesting a long-term commitment to mask-wearing for public health.
- May 18, 2021: With the CDC's new guidance for fully vaccinated individuals, Fauci clarified that this was not a mandate to remove masks but an assurance of vaccine efficacy, although he still supported the cautious approach to mask-wearing in certain settings.
- April 24, 2023: In an interview with the New York Times, Fauci discussed the effectiveness of masks, clarifying that while community-wide impact might be marginal, individual protection could be significant if using high-quality masks properly (the most absurd comment of the period).
Especially someone who pretends to "choke" every time he wears one, and who pretends that mask mandates are "literally fascism." I can't speak for anyone else. But I can say that for me they were extremely uncomfortable and did give me the sensation of struggling to get air. I can't speak for anyone else. I have heard of others having this sensation but I can only speak for myself. If there were a real threat I would consider it when in an environment where exposure was likely. For example, my doctor's office required masks during the visits, but it was a large office and they shitcanned them as soon as possible. Which pleased me. OTOH, all doctors at Houston Methodist were required to wear them and fired if they refused. |
