We want them to come back,” Trump said before slamming the US’s CHIPS and Science Act, which his predecessor President Biden signed to invest over $52 billion in domestic chip manufacturing.

Oxymoronic. Come back but I'll remove the incentive to come back...

The Chips Act was a good idea with dismal implementation. I'm not certain anyone has actually received any funding as of yet and I assume Trump will pull the plug anyway.

Gelsinger was gung ho to take advantage of the funding and believed Intel could catch up. The board apparently disagreed so I wonder if the US will have any homegrown semi tech in the next few years.

Ironically I was almost certainly hired into my present position to take advantage of the new semi opportunities because of the Chips Act. We're still waiting and I expect it will never happen. I'm not certain why they are still keeping me on board.
