Bill, you are trying to force an open door:
<I expect that they will end up with either a socket
solution> ... It has a name "Super-Socket", 100MHz
bus and K6-3D+ with on-chip cache.

<or a repin of the slot 1 in a unique manner to bypass
any patents,> It is called the "EV6"-bus licensed from
Digital Alpha, to be used in K7.

Paul's remark about too "tight rules" is just ridiculous,
as many of his other remarks. It is the FACT that the K6
parts WERE manufacturable up to 266 MHz even on 0.35 um
technology - there are many overclockable parts on the
market. This fact breaks Paul's speculations about "design
rules". I am sure he even does not know what exactly this
term is referring to:-)

I believe that a combination of new equipment additions
to FAB-25 capacity with the lot lead time of about 10
weeks is understandable explanation of not so high ramp
of production - ANY mishandling can cost you a quarter,
easily.

The only brain-constipated Intelafelons
may assume that the only Intel engineers can do 0.25um.
The fact that Intel "copies exactly" the fab equipment
tells us that they themselves have little idea of how
exactly it works and why. The only difference is that
they are in this bandwagon a bit earlier.

Regards,

Ali
