Power back on after the sixth day.

It's been an education. We are now better positioned should there be a repeat.

We have been lucky, still loads awaiting reconnection. It's been tough on many. The power company has been allowing people to spend £200 per night on hotel accommodation and £10 per meal, to be claimed back later. This is reasonable of them, have to see whether they pay up or not. I stayed in a nice hotel for 1 night to get a respite. It made a big difference.

Those who are on the breadline though, with limited funds and unable to travel easily, cannot afford to go into the hole for £200 per night plus expenses. Neither can they afford to wait for the costs to be refunded with the uncertainty of being paid back as well.

I am not worried about that.

The power company employees turned up looking like, and acting like, the super hero's they are. Worked into the night in the biting cold out in the hills in inaccessible places with the big machines needed to complete the work. I was suitably impressed.

Huge number of trees down, mainly big ones for some reason, so there will be an excess of timber for sometime. Going to see if I can grab some of it. We have the facilities to cut and season timber. Oak and Beech, plus some softwoods would be handy.
