If ASND makes a bid for CIEN, I'm out of here in a flash.

Pat,

That's okay. I was just trying -- generally unsuccessfully -- to stir up some debate (on issues other than Iraq).

I wonder how many people thought, at the time, that ASND overpaid for CSCC and that it was a bad move. In time, the broadening of ASND's product base that that acquisition brought was critical. I would not have stayed in ASND if all it had was RAS/RAC.

I'm not sure if Ciena is the right candidate, or if ASND can develop a DWDM product in its own labs, but I do think that this should be an action item in ASND's product development process. The proper acquisition, in this explosive product category, would make ASND into a company with excellent revenue potential in a very wide range of CLEC and RBOC based products. Moreover, a DWDM entree would play into the consolidation now going on in the industry. (CIEN is criticzed for not being a full-product TELCO provider, ASND is missing some of the products that LU provides to TELCOs.)

My bottom line, as long term investor, is that ASND would be better served with a top-grade DWDM entree than without any such capacity.
