Interestingly Seagate's home grown media operation was never a success. They had to buy Conner before they had media ops worth a darn. At that time their heads ops looked unstoppable. It shows the danger of heads and media ops, that it is a extremely high cap, process business (as Lawrence wisely underscores) and you can loose the recipe pretty easily. But alas, heads and media are sine qua non.

You mention PR for the Komag/Seagate deal. I havent seen that. Do you have a link?
