North Korean troops no longer seen on front lines fighting Ukraine

Critics of Ukraine’s military leadership for last year’s offensive into Russia’s Kursk region said it was a waste of resources at a time when the military inside Ukraine was faltering in the face of a prolonged Russian attack. But President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine has insisted on holding the territory for as long as possible, as a bargaining chip in future peace negotiations.

The longer Ukrainian troops hold Kursk, the more embarrassing it becomes for Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin. Although Putin has vowed to expel the Ukrainian forces, he has been hesitant to divert troops from the main Russian operations in eastern Ukraine, in part to similarly strengthen his hand in future negotiations.

The story never made sense, sending foreign troops into battle without training, especially in light of the heavy use of drones. The 'embarrassment' angle seems a desperate ploy to get Russia to divert soldiers from the crumbling Ukrainian front.
