Andy - Re: ..your faith in Intel is based on your personal work
experience in Intel? "

Working at Intel, or any company for that matter, doesn't always give you a great insight into what or how that company is doing.

Working in a technical area, one is generally absorbed in solving problems day in and day out, essentially always looking up from the trenches. More often than not you will see and experience things that nearly destroy your confidence in the company and its potential.

One example of recent vintage was the i740 - somebody decided it was going to use a 0.6 micron process (this was done at a time when the 0.25 micron process was being ramped!) The part nearly worked but was HUGE, SLOW and sucked power like an old Cyrix 6x86!

Eventually, these decisions get "corrected" and the part was "rapidly" ported to the 0.35 micron process. However, this is just one example of where the internal Intel differs from the externally perceived Intel.

You really need to distance yourself from a company to see how it performs on a macro scale compared to its competition. From deep within, you don't always get a good global picture. Communications are generally not good between divisions so your view of your own division becomes your view of the company - and that may not always be a correct viewpoint.

Re: "-would you invest in Intel? "

I have and I do and will continue to do so.
