Hi L, Re: Time or Miles to Recover costs on changes...................

My formula I created back in the '70s when we were in the midst of the Oil Embargo. There were changes one could make to those cars that improved mileage a bit. However, was the cost of the change ever going to pay for itself? That formula was the way I answered that question. It was even "published" in Road & Track's back pages where they used to have a Q&A column.

It works pretty well but your answer is better equipped to handle the 'modern world.' Thanks for that cool bit of research!

For now, I'm just a hydrocarbon kinda guy. With 26 pistons spread about my 4 automobiles, I'm not about to change. At my age, I can still spell "Carburetor" where the guy at the auto parts store just gets a blank stare when I ask for parts! Who knew that by reaching 75 years old I'd become somewhat of a "specialist" by knowing how to rebuild a carb!

Thanks again,
OAG Tom
