Mq., sometimes a book review says it better than the book. I hope you take the time to read it:

My thesis is a bit more psychological. Xi, like his country, suffers from a low grade but significant inferiority complex that drives his aggression. He is not terribly well-educated (I would say that a monomaniacal emphasis on Marxism stunts vision and reasoning skills) but he is terribly cunning and ruthless. He is mis-educated. And, like most dictators, he believes his success is the product of his intellectual genius. He aspires to be another Mao, a despicable, murderous specimen.

Marxism is bollocks but, for reasons I cannot comprehend, has taken over a significant portion of the East. I suspect that it has to do with an inexplicable preference for dictators and caudillos. The West has for the most part grown out of such a mind-set.

Marxism is, of course, a dangerous cult. It is simply the latest expression of the preference for strong men shown by our Eastern bretheren. It has caused more damage to human beings than anything I can imagine. It is utterly antithetical to the human spirit. It enslaves while claiming to liberate.

Any doubts you may have about Comrade Xi’s Marxism need to be jettisoned immediately. Otherwise, you’ll never understand modern China.

Ultimately, Marxism will be China’s undoing.
