| | | | | Sad news today, I found out Marty passed away last night. Marty was one of a kind and a remarkably nice guy.
This is from the San Francisco Chronicle in 1989 and, a badge of honor for him, when he was fighting against rising housing costs in Berkeley.

Marty Schiffenbauer does not appear to be a man who could rile up a city so easily.

Short, sprouting a mass of curly 'hair and a beard, he is a 51-year-old aging hippie who rides a bicycle and does not have a conventional job. A car, he says, would be "unecological," and besides, he thinks it is a waste of money.

Asked about what he really wants of life, he grabs the Wall Street Journal, points to a line and appropriates it. "I want to be the antithesis of Donald Trump," Schiffenbauer says.
