Bill,
If they fire another 200,000 I will consider DOGE a great success.
You, just like Trump, think that the elimination of 200K heads from the federal government will bring balance to the budget, but it won't.

Think about it. Let's say it costs the federal government $200K to keep each person hired (including salary, benefits, and support such as office space and computers).

How much will you end up saving? $40B. About 2% of the federal deficit.

So no, big savings won't come from cutting heads alone.

But hey, maybe we can also save money by cutting the DoEd ($100B), the NIH ($50B), FEMA ($33B), FAA ($19B), and 50% of the DoD ($400B). (Never mind the fact that some of those federal departments actually do real work. Let's assume they're just as useless as Trump and Musk's hair plugs.)

Where will that bring the deficit down to? $1.4T per year.

That's it. A big step down from $1.9T, but it's STILL a massive deficit.

The truth is something you can't handle. Trump and Musk can't eliminate the deficit without touching Social Security and Medicare, but they're too chickenshit to do that.
