I am not expecting it to to happen either. I do remember during the early days of the Clinton administration, there was all this talk about universal healthcare, which went down the drain pretty quickly. And yes, I know it is not happening from the Republican side.

Free public college tuition in states for children of families earning under 125K a year can become a State's issue. I see no reason why more States won't initiate that.

As for healthcare and the relationship between patients and physicians in NYC, it is pretty wild. Patients have ripped off doctors left and right to the point where most doctors in the NYC area don't take checks. If you do not have coverage, you either pay cash or card. Even many people with deductibles on Medicare who have money don't pay; they consider the prices for care to be a rip off. What is a physician going to do if you owe them $50-$75, take you to court? Outside of sending bills every month for a couple of years, they end up getting tired of wasting postage and stop. Plus, many people live on the road in Airbnbs or in their mobile home. Most are not paying anything outside of what the insurance deems appropriate to the physician.

Bureaucrats like Ten will say that's why prices are so high because many people don't pay. My response to Ten: don't be a sucker, just say no or fuck you.
