I already told you. He said it last September. It wasn't a long time ago, and he wasn't a kid when he said. And it wasn't a random, isolated post, either. Other posts of his fit a pattern of hateful racism. I do not care that he said it. It is not significant. I don't know his context, what was going on his life, or what led him to say that. It is his absolute right to say what the fuck he wants to. And a person should not lose a job for that.
I want to see free speech be absolutely free, and I'd like to see that policy not only as law but as general practice. Hurt feelings aren't illegal.
Yesterday, my daughter called me, very upset, because a co-worker of her husbands had stomped out of the Super Bowl party after he exploded over her having voted for Trump. This, a month after her BFF, had instantly disconnected from her, permanently, based on her vote. But she is not the type to shut up and sit in the corner when political topics come up. I've lost many friends from high school because of political differences.
It is oppressive when people feel that they cannot participate in a discussion for fear of personal attack. And it not healthy for society.
Look at the hate spewed on these threads. Many of you bitch about Trump as being hateful, but you guys are far more hateful in many cases than he is. With him it is never personal. With the anti-Trump left it is nothing but.
