Hello Doug,

Although I am very interested in RealNetworks, and have been watching them to determine the best time to buy in, over the last several weeks I have been experimenting with a technology that is going to give RNWK a run for their money.

Even the Audible product just doesn't compare ...

I've been researching into MP3. This is a MPEG3 compressed solution with far great fidelity and quality of audio. The bandwidth requirements are much greater, so I think that under current conditions of the Internet RNWK has a better solution. But I have been downloading music lately that is about 900KB/minute ... a five minute song takes about 4MB to store ... but this is 10-12 times less than a current audio CD. So running this off your local hard drive this provides much better quality.

To see more on MP3 go to:

mp3.com

... and to download a player (my current favorite):

winamp.com

As for the tie into Audible ...

Go look at:

mp3.com

Complete solid state, high quality (CD quality) audio in a portable device ... first releases around $300(US) by August of this year. 40MB of flash cards to give 40 minutes of solid state audio.

And as for consumer demand ... go to any Gen-X computer hangout and ask about MP3 ... they are all over it ... go to any search engine and type in MP3 ... there is tons of content ... you can also download a freeware encoder and encode your own CD library ...

I use it daily now ... I don't know if I'll buy another audio CD again ...
