Jim. It appears that Alcatel won the RFP contract by indicating
that they have both CO equipment (DSLAM) and ADSL modems.
While their modem is not ANSI compliant, Amati is in a
position to help out.

I am not clear how the DSLAM works so I assumed that
one ADSL port at the CO can handle several modems.
I don't know the ratio (may be some one knows) but it
seemed to me it is the key to bring down the cost.

The $300 per line was mentioned in this and other subjects
may seem a bit low but is not without foundation. Since the
telcos want end to end solutions, I think Amati will gain
if they have DSLAM boxes in their product line.
