Agreed ... I'm not using the word "routing" in the conventional OSI sense ... but these days the original terms don't seem to stick any more.

There are a number of companies that are now shipping commercial implementations ... Netscape, Network Appliance, and Sun ... the one that I have been working with the most right now is Novell's implementation on Intel hardware - FastCache. I'm in the middle of installing a three tier hierarchy to measure the changes in IP routed traffic. Fun stuff ... ;-)
