You got that right on the subject over covered calls. I always laugh
(under my breath) at the shrewd investor at a cocktail party (for me
it is a going away party for some employee) who says he writes those calls to get a little extra income on a stock that he is happy about.
I say yeah that's ok but I wanna go with my conviction and he laughs and says you just lose money. So I retort which stock are you doin' it
on and he says "Cisco"...

I say "Sysco"???? --- WOW, you are smart.

You see this actually happened and this guy (my manager at the time--
1992 or so) thought he was soooo smart, but he failed to realize the
losses of his ways that is that he gained ONLY 50% on this 200% winner.

I, personally don't like options all that much in most any form.
Straddles, spreads, covered this and protected that only lead to a weak pocket book. My favorite executions mostly come from a simple belief through TA that a stock is going to SHOOT in a particular direction, either No. or So. Actually So. is my
mostest favoritest since reversal (on High fliers) are very robust indeed.

Now what is your take on Pair over the next 2 weeks? I would love
some call action here but I'm told by a higher authority that it should be avoided. I am expecting a push to 24 ASAP . Anyone think we got a bearish reversal ahead?
