I think is depends on what you are looking to invest in. I spent a good part of 1998 - 2020 learning everything I could about REITs. What they are (Private vs Public), tax benefits, who are the investors, how you value them; FFO (Funds From Operations), Price/FFO what you can expect for growth.

I wanted to own income property (ie. real estate) and part of that journey was learning about REITs. I do own real estate and that was another journey I learned in 1990. Buying & selling real estate (aka flipping homes). I found out quickly, owning investment property was a better way to spend my time.

FWIW, I found that many of my college courses I took in 1977-1980 did not really help other than a few of my statistic courses. For fundamental valuation analysis I followed Buffett and in the early days would read Value Line that came out weekly at our local library.

I would say the best approach today is to identify a topic and/or sector you are interested in and start there. You can also use Perplexity.AI to help you dig into specific areas and read the many articles it references.

I am always learning new things. When I graduated from college, my Dad shook my hand and said; son you never stop learning.

Good luck on your adventure.
