As far as your "wealth preservation" it is only economically feasable to borrow so long as the rate of return on your assets out paces that of your interest rate on borrowing. If this was your strategy in '97 then you came out on the short end, given intel's yearly gain of about 1% a rate at which I seriously doubt you were able to borrow. (But I forget the fact that your average cost on intel is probably $2 and your taxes could offset too much of the realized gain)
I guess you are going to die with your shares, you'll probably request to be buried with them. Anyway, we've established you will never sell.
On to the next question. Given that the world is full of opportunities, can you find circumstances for 'trading' intel, especially based on historical measures like pe. I am not immediately aware of the number, but hasn't intel historically never traded above 25x earnings, or some figure close to that? If so, as a trader, wouldn't it be a reasonable point to sell?
If you are so corrupted by your time horizon of eternity, well, you probably don't have an answer. But some of us do and you are forced to share the planet with us, as sad as that may make you. So, when I pose this question to you or someone else on this thread, you now have no excuse for not understanding my motivations.
