"I wonder how many of these farmers voted for Trump, and how they're feeling about Trump's blatant inaction."

They can't be terribly happy. Got this from the Google AI response. Maybe Trump will give them tariff money.

Since February 2022, more than 157 million birds have been affected by bird flu in the United States, including millions of chickens and ducks.

Chickens

  • In December and January, 41.4 million birds were culled due to bird flu exposure, which was three times more than the same period in the previous year.

  • In central California, more than 4 million birds have been lost to the outbreak.

Ducks

  • In December and January, commercial duck farms in New York and California euthanized more than 200,000 ducks.

  • In New York, a farm was forced to kill an entire flock of 100,000 ducks.

Overall impact

  • More than 82 million farmed birds have been culled since February 2022.

  • The highest number of deaths have been reported in Iowa, Ohio, and California.

Why cull birds?

Birds are culled because they will get infected and die if left untreated. Culling is not about food supply and demand.

Other animals affected

Bird flu has also infected cows and pigs.
