Here is my take on Blue and yesterday’s 4th qtr report.

Based on the article “Understanding and Controlling the Formation of Non-radiative Defects in Blue Organic Triplet Emitters”

The article was received 25 Mar 2024, revised 1 July, accepted 1 Oct and published 14 Nov. (UDC provided some funding and Thompson was a researcher.)

The article states that a Blue phosphoresce emitter was developed with “…Blue lifetimes approaching that of long-lived commercialized green PHOLEDs.”

I think the issue now is for manufactures to modify or develop a device that can accommodate this newly developed Blue emitter material and the techniques detailed in the article.

Now, let’s look at what UDC has been stating in their quarterly reports. They indicated that there would be a product containing a blue emitter by the end of 2024 (most likely a smart phone).

The above article was first submitted in March; the same month that UDC mentioned Blue in its 1st quarterly report with blue in a product by the end of the year. Then, if I remember, UDC started to waffle in the 2nd quarterly report in July but still was telling us by the end of 2024. The above article was revised in July. Yesterday’s 2024 annual UDC report has $3.9 million in Blue sales for the Jan thru Sep time period and only $600k in the 4 qtr.

So, to me, UDC and their research partners, have a commercially acceptable BLUE emitter but the delay now may be in the manufacturing of a device that can accommodate the new Blue PHOLED emitter.

My two cents.
