Uncle Si wrote those poems and I am not a septuagenarian yet. From him I also learned "Never stop learning", and "Speak when spoken to", he also told me to 'stay out of national politics'. With reference to one of his wife's sisters, from my mom I learned;
'No racing'
'I will not be deceitful to my mother'
'Look in the dictionary'
after being given some money I was instructed to ask myself 'Are you sure that is where you want to spend that dollar?'

With reference to my dad, some instructions I learned, usually without question and without explanation;
'You gotta eat'
'The center is yours'
'Look after the kids and the dollars will look after themseves'
'The whole world is crooked'
'Respect the girls'
'Get a good sleep before a test'
'You don't do anything without a shower'
'If you run over somebody, back up and run over them again'
'No sensible person wants war'
'Sweep them all away'
'Work hard and do good work'
