This request to delete, or "update", the computer put election officials in legal jeopardy so they hired an attorney and asked a sheriff for help. Lawfare was used to intimidate them, but they now have definitive evidence of what happened. (Virtual machines simulate a second operating system and software package, but use the same hardware and the original operating system remains.)
