I think the whole thing was a set up.
You and many other people on both sides of this debate.

The pro-Ukrainian, anti-Trump folks think it was a "set up" on the part of Trump so that he can blame Zelensky for the failed peace deal.

The MAGA folks think it was a "set up" on the part of Zelensky just to tell Trump to fukk off live on YouTube.

I personally don't think either side intended for this to be a "set up." I just think that Trump and JD overestimated their ability to charm people face-to-face.

Zelensky for the most part had to do what he had to do in order to preserve any chance of the U.S. offering real security guarantees. He's in an incredibly difficult position, especially given how the war is starting to turn back into Ukraine's favor.

Now would be an AWFUL time to give up the momentum that Ukraine was finally regaining.
