The European war party's only play was to send a tiny band of "peacekeepers" to Ukraine, get some of them shot by the Russians, and then demand US intervention in the name of NATO credibility. Trump and Hesgeth preempted that. What do they do now? Starmer offered 30,000 peacekeepers as a tethered goat, and Trump asked him if he wanted to fight the Russians by himself. The British Army (not counting Marines) has 18,400 deployable combat soldiers--not even two full divisions. I suppose Friedrich Merz could (as he proposed in the past) give the Taurus missile to Ukraine, but I doubt he would be foolhardy enough to do that now, even if his not-yet-formed coalition would let him, which it probably won't. Thanks for playing, Brussels.
