Putin is in this not for money or power - he’s got that. He’s in it for the same reason that Gorbachev was trying to make sure, back in the 80’s, that NATO will not expand East - and ever since, Russia was trying to do the same.

I agree that Putin MUST have victory - because failing to be clearly victorious would make Russia’s position vulnerable for many, many years to come.

Trump understood this. What he’s doing now may prevent huge global disasters. Right now, without the US - Europe can only talk. That’s wonderful - because things could have escalated very badly.

You could say that - once again - America is saving Europe’s bacon.
