Happiness is probably making progress towards internal goals set for oneself.

If you are an intoxicated bum living in the streets of SF, then happiness might be getting a 1 month sobriety chip at an NA or AA mtg before returning to your subsidized shelter where your next step towards greater happiness is to get a good job to pay for your own shelter.

That feeling of accomplishment might be far greater than Musk and the whole SpaceX team landing both a Starship booster and the Starship itself, which until now hasn't landed intact.
