3Com Commits Additional $1 Million in Networking Solutions
to Internet2 Project - Monday February 23, 11:00 am Eastern Time

New Donation Brings Total 3Com Contribution to Over $2 Million

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1998--3Com Corporation
(NASDAQ:COMS - news), a leader in providing innovative networking
infrastructures for educational institutions worldwide, today
announced that it is raising its overall contribution to universities
participating in the Internet2 project to $2 million in leading-edge
networking technologies.

Internet2 is a partnership among federal research agencies and leaders
in the information technology industry to help the nation's most
prominent universities build next-generation computer networks that
support advanced education and research applications.

Last fall, 3Com was named a Corporate Partner of Internet2 and
committed an initial $1 million in networking equipment to assist
universities in upgrading their campus network designs. In addition
to the total $2 million in equipment grants, 3Com is also providing
engineering expertise and technical support to Internet2 universities
to help them create and manage advanced campus network infrastructures
that meet their technology objectives.

With 365 million shares, this $2 million does not effect the
bottom line. Note it is not cash but equipment grants. My feeling
is that this money is well spent and will return many times over
in the future. Anyone else have thoughts?
