Inode, How about you give them a fucking break. How about NO?
Every time I start a new job, I always inherit a mess. The code was written by someone who doesn't know WTF he was doing and prioritized quick-n-easy solutions over long-term quality results.
I know what it takes to fix broken systems. Sometimes it takes an entire overhaul, IF the schedule allows. Other times we just have to work with what we already have.
And it takes EXPERIENCE to figure this stuff out. Twentysomething engineers won't know how to fix it. They just come in and think, "Oh, this is the way things were done, let's just do it that way," or "Hmmm, I've got a hammer now, let's treat everything like a nail." I have to guide them, teach them, show them things that they never learned in college, or on other jobs where the demands were fewer and the stakes were lower.
So NO, I won't give the Dogebois a fuckin' break, ESPECIALLY if they have demonstrated a willingness to lie through their teeth.
And their bad behavior is being enabled by their cult leader, who also has shown time and time again that, when pressed on the details of anything he's supposedly an "expert" in, he doesn't know shit.
"Learn on the fly" ... what a joke. If I told my CEO that my employees were screwing things up because they were "learning on the fly," he'd fire me in an instant.
