How might the data geography US-EU split? The present Internet is the result of decades of close cooperation between the United States and Europe.

Next comes the Big Split. It will look like that joint account a couple has, and suddenly they divorce.

The first crack appeared when the UK, which hosts the biggest Internet exchange in the world, exited the EU. Now, the EU has the biggest Internet exchange in a non-EU country.

Next came the grudge about the US Tech Majors generating huge data traffic while the EU operators had the burden to finance Europe's 5G and fiber connectivity.

TARIFFS MEET DIGITAL TAXES
"The global digital economy is entering a critical period—as the incoming Trump administration signals a likely resurgence of protectionism, countries face mounting pressure to rethink their digital service taxes (DSTs).

The stakes are about to become higher than ever. The U.S. has historically framed DSTs as discriminatory measures targeting American technology firms and responded in kind with threats of trade retaliation against individual countries. writes Andrew Leahey in a Forbes article.

Europeans should start thinking about what the US did to China with its Clean Network, which would apply only to China. They should re-think again.
That amount of submarine cables across the North Atlantic was built when relations were good. Keep in mind the joint bank account analogy when you look at it. Many of these submarine cables are private investments by the US Tech Majors, they need to be protected and maintained.
