Affirm Holdings stock slides after Klarna IPO filing, Afterpay expansion

Mar. 17, 2025 8:11 AM ET
By: Liz Kiesche, SA News Editor

Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ: AFRM) stock tumbled 9.3% in Monday premarket trading after Klarna ( KLAR) filed for a U.S. initial public offering and Block ( XYZ) added its Afterpay pay-over-time financing options to its popular Cash App.

The Klarna ( KLAR) IPO will give investors another option for a pure-play stock in the buy now, pay later business. Meanwhile, Block's ( XYZ) move to add Afterpay, which it bought in 2022, to the Cash App highlights the stiff competition in the BNPL sector.

Before the premarket action, Affirm (NASDAQ: AFRM) stock sank 38% in the past month, while Block ( XYZ), which offers a broader range of payment technology, declined by 32%.
