| | | They are falling behind a number of car manufacturers in China. While we do know that BYD has, for this moment, a lead in an area of battery tech, and in China, will have a charging advantage in China in terms of speed.
But at the same time, Tesla has a substantial advantage in self-driving tech (which will be quickly leveraged into RoboTaxis), as well as far broader availability of charging infrastructure outside of China. In addition, Tesla has some established leads in manufacturing tech (gigapress, unboxed model, etc.), advantage in O-T-A update worldwide, better in-car entertainment, etc. These are usability features that are still pretty attractive overall. Of course, BYD & others will have a price advantage in China.
The point I'm making is it seems to me pretty much a tie overall, or perhaps Tesla continues to have a lead when key areas are considered. However, it is unclear how much pull that would have within China.
So, while Tesla is taking a beating in the media right now, that will pass in due course. But we still have the mess of an economy Trump inherited and we'll see how bad it is. Kind of reminds me of 1980 in that regard. |
