The only lead Tesla has in the BEV world today is it's Supercharging network.
While I'm a true believer in Vision, the Waymo approach looks like a kludge to me. Nothing else is even close at this point for unrestrained self driving. The choice to use Vision was the correct one, and the idea of relying on some kind of multi-media presentation (prepared hi-res maps, geofencing, LiDAR, and with frequent maps and other gadgets) seems like magic tricks to me. I appreciate Musk's straightforward approach which is to move to what is ultimately the obvious solution, computer Vision. This translates to getting to the ultimate best solution in the most direct, quickest route, in my view.

I'm surprised you don't see Tesla as having a significant manufacturing advantage. There are at least a half dozen clear advantages Tesla has over most or all competitors -- notably, "Gigacasting", and simple design are key elements.

I guess time will tell.
