XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) is planning to mass-produce flying cars by 2026, making it the first company in the world to do so, according to its CEO He Xiaopeng, state-owned newspaper China Daily reported.

His statements initially lifted the electric vehicle maker's Hong Kong-listed shares around 7% on Monday. But the shares later reversed gains to trade 1% lower amid broader declines in the region's stock market.

"We are integrating vehicle control with AI to develop a new flight control system into such flying cars, making it safer and more user-friendly," He said in a group interview on the sidelines of the annual meeting of China's parliament over the weekend.

He said XPeng's (NYSE: XPEV) Level 3 (L3) autonomous driving technology will surpass global competitors across the board this year. "By 2026, XPeng aims to explore L4 driverless capabilities in parking scenarios, including fully driverless parking and vehicle retrieval in parking lots."

The executive added that , XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) is targeting mass production of industrial humanoid robots with L3 capabilities by next year, "which involves fully integrating their hands, feet, mouth, eyes, and brain."
