"Cause dementia" is very strong language.

Given the data actually suggests statins might actually help lower risk of dementia, I'd put her on my "crank" list for not being balanced at all.

Current Consensus

As of March 25, 2025, most major health organizations, including the American Heart Association and the Alzheimer’s Association, do not consider statins a significant risk factor for dementia. The benefits of statins in preventing cardiovascular events are well-established, and these benefits likely outweigh any hypothetical risks to cognition for most people. However, individual responses to medications can vary, and anyone experiencing memory issues while on Lipitor should consult their doctor to evaluate whether the drug or another factor might be involved.
The current consensus is also that Benadryl and its active ingredient should be avoided by anyone over 65 as their is a higher associated risk of developing dementia with that drug. So at least she is close to the truth but again, not a direct cause such as "sit in the sun for 3 hrs and you will get a sunburn".
