Exxon Mobil Plans $100 Million Plant Upgrade to Produce Cleaning Alcohol for the Chip Industry

11:18 AM EDT, 03/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Exxon Mobil (XOM) said Wednesday it will spend $100 million to revamp its Baton Rouge, Louisiana, chemical plant to produce 99.99% pure isopropyl alcohol for cleaning semiconductor chips.

The decision comes as demand for chips continues to increase due to the rapidly growing AI industry, according to the company.

It said the plant upgrade is expected to be completed by 2027.
