RE: why WDC instead of SEG?

Pure hard-drive maker in WDC vs. confused company (but perhaps better mgt.) in SEG.

Actually prefer SEG hard drives and not WDCs.

But WDC has a monstrously good balance sheet, lower R&D (I'm guessing here), stock buyback and the day I had cash available they announced that there was sufficient interest in the convertible debt offering to raise the offer to 400 million from the original 250-275 million.

That was good enough for me. Yes SEGs new announcement looks good. My fear with WDC is that they would have folded if things did not pan out in the industry - with the new balance sheet strength they have some staying power.

Also I saw WDC has less than 10,000 employees and SEG is generating no more than double the revenue with 10 times the number of employees.

As a rule I like the simpler companies and WDC to me was the simpler and truer HD company of the 2 and I guess 3 - WDC, QNTM and SEG.

But it's a gamble and I'm perhaps a q early. Still see no acceleration in orders or earnings revisions. But hey that's why this was another IRA addition and not a margined addition!!!
