I will say that I knew no one aside from people on the AAPL threads who bought a Mac last year.

Hear, hear.

This quarter alone I had one friend buy an 8600, another is waiting for the price cut on the 233 mhz G3 to become official, and another is going to buy his first Mac ever--either a 6500 or a low-end clone model.

The other day I started thinking, and it turns out I have not seen a desktop Mac in person since September 1996. This is quite bad considering that (a) I work with computers (b) I do multiplatform work and (c) I travel all over the world.

I have seen three colleagues with e-mates and two laptops at airports, plus a few dumped in the corner old Macs.

I don't have much contact with Graphics niche any longer nor with K-12, but I do visit universities.

All in all, my statistical sample suggests that outside the education/home/graphics niche the Mac is now down to below 1% market share.
