They sure were good for the countries that slapped them on us...
No they weren't. That's the whole point. Protectionism never works out except in very specific circumstances, and even then, it's a trade-off based on priorities.

Trump's priority is remaking the entire country in his own image based on complete delusions.

Wrong policy, wrong data, wrong execution, wrong man.
