ATMEL NEWS:

Atmel Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML)today announced it has reached an agreement in principle with Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) to purchase from Vishay the integrated circuit (IC) business of Temic Telefunken Microelectronic GmbH (Temic), of Heilbronn, Germany, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler-Benz A.G.(NYSE: DAI). Vishay entered into an agreement late last year to purchase all semiconductor operations of Temic. Following the sale of Temic to Atmel, Vishay will keep the discrete, power IC, and infra red data communication businesses of Temic.
Atmel's purchase price for the IC business will be approximately
$140 million in cash. The acquisition is subject to completion of a
definitive agreement and is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 1998, following the closing of the sale of all semiconductor operations of Temic to Vishay. Additional financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
