Why do you believe that his replacement will be better

The knee-jerk answer is that his replacement can't be worse. Recent US events have shown that leaders and their results can always be worse. It's my opinion, from reading and about a month total visits to Eastern Europe along with co-workers who left the Soviet Union, that most of the Western Russians would really like to have a good relationship with Europe and a more democratic lifestyle. They absolutely hate the society of surveillance where nobody trusts their neighbors and are cautious about their own families.

Only recently have I been learning that a significant amount of the Eastern Russians would rather have closer ties to Mongolia or become independent.

So, there is a good chance that Putin's replacement will be better for Russia and the world.
