What makes you think that a US shirt factory worker could afford to buy the shirts he makes unless he got an employee discount or even then?
10 years from now no one will be making shirts. Everything from loading the material into the backdoor and carting it out the front will be handled by AI systems and bots.

For most of my life I made my living writing code and selling it. Last week my daughter called me and said, "Dad, I've a new idea for a therapy device." She then went on to describe a computer "game" with complex figures and features, 3-d imagery, sound, and 3-d motion on the screen, and all that goes with it.

In 20 minutes I had a functioning prototype working on my PC, complete with sound and all movement. With a little more terminology and skill she could have just done it herself. No designer nor coder needed. Even the required touch-up work can be done by giving verbal instructions to my PC, with it cranking out a finished product. All responsive for any modern device. I didn't write one line of code.

The point here is that in the very near term, we can expect that the entire notion of "what is work" is changing -- there is simply no reason one needs workers to make shirts today.

A person who can come up with $2,500 to invest can literally start making shirts in their home without ever touching a sewing needle or scissors. Profitably.

Times are changing. Values are changing. We have to adapt or China will own everything.
