Mr. Ed always reminds me of a reining horse we had on the farm. He roamed a twenty-acre pasture behind the house and was always in top, Olympic-level condition.

One day, a little male burro stallion was accidentally let loose in that pasture. The horse strutted over, clearly ready to fight, he intended to kill the burro. He charged and the burro bit him just above the knee and dropped him. Charged again, same thing. On the third charge as the horse dropped to his knees the burro ran behind him and mounted him.

That changed everything.

The horse split at full gallop with the burro tearing after him nearly as fast. It was blistering hot and for about twenty minutes they raced around the pasture. Finally they wore themselves out panting and staring at each other.

Then side by side, they walked up to the trough, drank lots of water, and were best friends.
